Bilingual Protocol
Japanese Protocol, in EnglishThe Envoy of Japan ── carrying its grace to the world, in English
Japan, Conveyed
to the World in English
To convey Japanese protocol, in English, to those from abroad — a qualification for acquiring that capacity, systematically, from the very beginning. No prior knowledge of protocol is required. Yet, because the materials and lecture slides, the examination and its demonstration, are all conducted in English, an advanced command of the language is required.
Those who complete the programme become able to explain, present, and teach Japanese protocol — up to and including imperial ceremony — to an international audience, in authoritative English. It is the path to becoming an envoy who carries the grace of Japan to the world.
This learning is not for aspiring instructors alone. Even without becoming a teacher, it makes for the highest cultivation, and the capacity to smooth international relations — a sure strength as a global citizen.
Scarce
in All the World
Japanese etiquette is taught in Japanese, to Japanese people — that is the norm. Instructors who can convey Japanese protocol, extending even to imperial ceremony, in English and under formal certification, to those from abroad, scarcely exist anywhere in the world.
The materials are all in advanced English. The examination, and its demonstration, are conducted in English. This threshold of advanced English is itself what secures the distinction and the rarity. It is not a qualification anyone may enter, but one for the chosen few.
One who can speak of Japan in English
is, in that alone, a rarity in the world
Three Fields
One Distinction
Bilingual Protocol addresses the three fields of Japanese protocol from the standpoint of conveying them abroad in English. Each rests upon the essence of an existing course.
The spirit of the tea ceremony and Japanese hospitality, the heart of Japanese society — the capacity to speak of its aesthetic and its conduct in English that reaches those from abroad.
From the exchange of business cards to nemawashi, and the building of trust in the Japanese way — the capacity to convey Japanese business culture, correctly, to a counterpart overseas.
Japanese diplomatic ceremony, crowned by imperial ceremonial — the capacity to present its exactitude and its beauty, in English, upon the international stage.
Two
Distinctions
To Teach
Upon certification, you may teach and present Japanese protocol to those from abroad in English — the path to becoming one who carries Japan to the world.
To Flourish
Even without aspiring to teach, it makes for the highest cultivation, and the capacity to smooth international relations — a sure strength as a global citizen.
Japanese and bilingual individuals who wish, or need, to speak of Japan in English; those who aspire to a position conveying Japanese protocol upon the international stage; and all who would raise their cultivation and their international capacity to the highest degree.
How You Learn
and What Is Required
An advanced command of English is required ── this is the threshold of the qualification.
Certification
— Only Upon Passing
As with ICPA’s other programmes, this is a qualification programme. You must attain a passing mark in the examination and receive certification. And only upon certification may you teach Japanese protocol to those from abroad in English.
