The protocol of statecraft
— International Diplomatic Etiquette
ICPA’s International Diplomatic Protocol Programme delivers the highest discipline of international diplomatic and ceremonial conduct. This programme is reserved for foreign service officers, ambassadors, government officials, and senior diplomats whose roles require formal representation of their nations on the world stage.
International diplomatic protocol carries the accumulated wisdom of centuries of statecraft. From order of precedence to state ceremonial conduct, from ambassadorial reception to formal diplomatic correspondence, mastery of this discipline distinguishes those who can represent their nations with appropriate dignity in every official context.
Admission to this programme is selective, with curricula adapted to the specific responsibilities of each candidate. Instruction is delivered with the discretion such study requires, and credentials carry LEPSW international accreditation.
In statecraft,
protocol speaks before the diplomat.
The complete discipline
— Six Modules
Foundations of Diplomatic Protocol
The history, philosophy, and contemporary practice of international diplomatic protocol. Understanding the Vienna Convention, modern conventions, and the principles that underpin all diplomatic engagement.
Order of Precedence & Ceremonial Conduct
The intricate rules of precedence in international contexts. State funerals, investitures, national celebrations, and the order in which different ranks are recognised in formal proceedings.
Ambassadorial & Diplomatic Reception Protocol
The protocol of diplomatic receptions, state dinners, and formal hosting. Ambassador-level entertainment, seating arrangements, ceremonial roles, and the conduct expected at the highest diplomatic levels.
Official Correspondence & State Documents
The conventions of formal diplomatic correspondence. Diplomatic notes, official letters, credentials, ceremonial documents, and the written conventions of inter-governmental communication.
Ceremonial Attire & Decorations
The dress codes of international diplomatic occasions. Morning dress, white tie, the wearing of decorations and orders, and the bearing required at the most formal state functions.
Crisis Diplomacy & Sensitive Protocol
Managing protocol in delicate diplomatic situations. State funerals, emergency receptions, sensitive bilateral occasions, and the discretion required at moments of national significance.
A bespoke formation
— Structure & Delivery
Highly bespoke. Schedule adapted to the specific responsibilities and obligations of each candidate.
Given the formal nature, in-person instruction is strongly preferred. Online components available for theoretical foundations.
Personally led by Mirei Cecilia Hakuba, supported by ICPA’s LEPSW-accredited faculty. Class sizes are deliberately limited.
Tuition is shared confidentially with candidates following preliminary enquiry, reflecting the depth of instruction and the value of LEPSW-accredited credentials.
