Founding Principal & Executive Director

A Heritage of Logic and Grace

I was born in Yokohama, into a family where two distinct worlds quietly converged. The city itself, where diverse cultures and values intersect, shaped my earliest understanding of the world.

My father served as Director of the National Research Institute of Police Science, dedicating his life to logic, discipline, and the pursuit of truth — a service for which he was decorated by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. My mother, a founding member of Japan Airlines, embodied the finest tradition of Japanese omotenashi and international hospitality.

From this convergence of two worlds, I learned a defining principle: true elegance is not mere outward beauty — it is a way of being, grounded in disciplined intelligence.

This conviction became the foundation of ICPA. Uniting scientific precision with Japanese cultural sensibility, the ICPA Method emerged as a systematic approach to becoming someone whom the world naturally trusts.

Why I Analyse Protocol

ICPA is not simply a school of etiquette. I approach protocol not as a set of rules to be memorised, but as a discipline for understanding the structure of human relationships.

The conduct of diplomats, executives, and global leaders is never arbitrary — there is always a reason behind every gesture, every choice. To decipher the why and the how, and to render them in a form that can be taught and learned — this is my role.

I was not born into the diplomatic world. It was precisely this distance that compelled me to decode, through rigorous international study and professional practice, the unspoken systems by which international society operates. The result is a translation of invisible social dynamics into reproducible skills that can be taught, refined, and mastered.

My Mission

What I wish to give to those I teach is the Logic of Elegance — the intellectual framework that allows one to act with composure, dignity, and assured authority in any international environment.

With this logic, there is no need to imitate. Those who master it no longer model themselves on others. They understand, choose, and lead.

Professional Journey

I came to the field of protocol the moment I recognised that those who command respect on the international stage share a common way of being. It is not knowledge, nor technique. It is the quiet confidence that comes from embodying respect and dignity. From that moment, I resolved to decode this essence, and to share it with those who seek to lead.

I have since pursued my studies in international protocol and diplomatic etiquette across the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia — training under the most distinguished institutions in the field, including the Leading Etiquette and Protocol Schools of the World (LEPSW), and immersing myself deeply in the traditions and cultures of each region.

Over more than ten years of professional practice in this discipline, I have had the privilege of providing instruction to diplomats, government officials, medical professionals, corporate executives, and U.S. government protocol officers and military personnel. I have also served as a cultural bridge — supervising British gentleman’s etiquette for the Netflix film 10DANCE, and offering expert commentary in major Japanese media on diplomatic and Imperial protocol during state visits.

In 2016, I founded The International Protocol Academy of Japan — ICPA, to consolidate this body of experience into a single coherent system. The original curriculum integrates Japanese cultural depth with international standards: original textbooks exceed 1,500 pages per discipline, encompassing international, business, social, and diplomatic protocol as a single intellectually rigorous discipline.

In 2021, ICPA was internationally accredited by the Leading Etiquette and Protocol Schools of the World (LEPSW) as Japan’s sole member academy. This recognition affirms both the international calibre of ICPA’s curriculum, and the Academy’s role as the institution through which Japanese cultural refinement is now formally represented to the world.

Founding Vision

I founded The International Protocol Academy of Japan — ICPA — with a single, clear conviction. In a globalised world, the greatest barrier between people is not language, nor power, nor cultural difference — it is the absence of mutual respect and genuine understanding.

Throughout my international studies and professional practice, I have witnessed time and again how cultural misunderstanding, unspoken expectations, and the subtlest differences in conduct can either build trust — or quietly erode it.

In diplomacy, business, medicine, and international cooperation, success is rarely determined by technical expertise alone. What ultimately matters is how those before us are made to feel — whether they experience that they are respected, understood, and at ease.

Japan holds a centuries-old philosophy of conduct, rooted in dignity, harmony, and refined attentiveness to others. Yet this wisdom remains insufficiently visible in the modern international arena, and at times overlooked even within Japan itself.

ICPA was founded to bridge this gap. By integrating Japanese cultural wisdom with Western academic frameworks, behavioural science, and international protocol standards, we offer those at the forefront of society a systematic, intellectually rigorous approach to human interaction at the highest levels.

Our purpose is not to teach surface-level etiquette. It is to cultivate professionals who can carry their culture with integrity, represent their institutions with authority, and build trust across borders with quiet confidence.

Vision from the Outset

Since founding The International Protocol Academy of Japan — ICPA, I have had the privilege of mentoring diplomats, embassy professionals, corporate executives, medical specialists, and individuals pursuing distinction on the international stage — guiding each through the discipline of executive etiquette and Japanese protocol for global leadership.

Across more than twenty-five years of international study, teaching, and cross-cultural practice, one principle has remained constant: at the centre of every successful negotiation, every well-led organisation, every international partnership, stands one essential element — the human being.

Technical expertise, authority, and institutional influence matter — yet none alone is ever sufficient. Trust, cooperation, and long-term success are built through human presence, cultural intelligence, and behavioural mastery.

From the outset, ICPA was designed as an academy that approaches protocol not as formality or convention, but as applied human science — a discipline that translates respect, dignity, and cultural understanding into the lived practice of leadership at the highest order.

Master the language
of trust together.
