Prologue The Educational Philosophy

A Trinity of Protocol
— Three Disciplines, One Philosophy

ICPA’s curriculum is not a collection of etiquette lessons. Through three coherent disciplines — International Protocol, Japanese Protocol, and Specialised Programmes — we offer the integrated cultivation of bearing, intellect, refinement, and character at the highest order.

Each programme has its own distinctive philosophy and structure, yet all share a common foundation: the understanding that respect and dignity are not innate qualities, but a way of being that can be learned, refined, and mastered as a reproducible discipline.

Programmes commence upon admission to the Academy as a member. From within each category, we invite you to select the course that most befits your purpose and standing.

Chapter I International

International Protocol
— The Global Discipline

For those who lead in the international arena: a comprehensive discipline of international protocol, global etiquette, and diplomatic refinement. The universal standards by which trust is built across cultures, and the way of being that commands quiet authority on any stage.

Diplomatic protocol, global business etiquette, and social refinement — three distinct contexts of executive etiquette united by a common philosophy. Each demands its own register of refined conduct, yet all draw from the same intellectual foundation.

This is the curriculum for those who must move with quiet confidence and authority in the world’s most demanding rooms.

The language of the international stage
is not words, but bearing.

Chapter II Japanese

Japanese Protocol
— The Cultural Heritage

A philosophy of dignity, harmony, and refined attentiveness — preserved across centuries, rooted in the depth of Japanese tradition. Imperial protocol, Japanese etiquette, and the philosophy of omotenashi: the way of being that embodies authentic Japanese refinement, taught here as a coherent discipline for the modern world.

Japanese etiquette and protocol for executives — for those of Japanese heritage who wish to represent their culture with integrity, and for those of any nation who seek to engage with Japan with genuine understanding. This curriculum offers the depth that no surface knowledge can provide.

Standing alongside International Protocol as ICPA’s second pillar: the opportunity to study Japanese cultural wisdom as an internationally rigorous discipline.

The spirit of Japan,
spoken as a global language.
