After completing the beginner level, I progressed to the Intermediate Etiquette Course at ICPA, which also consisted of five sessions. While the structure was similar to the beginner level, the depth and richness of content were far greater. Each lesson felt more powerful and immersive, and the overall experience was incredibly fulfilling.
What stood out most at this level was the inclusion of external guest instructors — professionals with authentic experience in their fields. Learning directly from specialists who deal with essential, real-world matters brought a whole new dimension to the course.
Learning from Experts Across Cultures
For instance, when we studied dress codes, our trainer was an expert in vintage British attire — someone deeply familiar with the history and context of formal presentation.
We also had online sessions with expatriates, which gave us first-hand insight into the manners and cultural nuances of different countries.
In one particularly memorable class, we studied wine etiquette under the guidance of a professional, delving into refined tastes and presentation with depth and precision.
Each class was intensive, hands-on, and offered a unique perspective. Through these experiences, I began to cultivate the ability to not only recognise quality but to discern the essence behind true elegance and authenticity.
Looking Ahead
I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from such a wide range of instructors. The intermediate level didn’t just enhance my knowledge — it refined my perception.
I look forward to continuing my studies with Murata-sensei, and to further developing my international etiquette and cross-cultural communication skills through ICPA’s programmes.
